Our Renton dental team offers total care to patients of all ages… including kids! As a family dental practice, we strive to create a positive experience for young children so that they look forward to visits with us in the future.
Your Child’s Smile is Important
A lifelong healthy smile begins in childhood, with regular cleanings and good oral habits. We want your child to receive the proper dental care they deserve, which is why we offer a full range of pediatric dentistry services:
First Time Checkups
Dr. Kaur recommends that you schedule your child's first dentist appointment when they cut their first tooth. During the visit, she will perform a visual examination and review critical oral hygiene instructions for you to do at home.
For older kids (4+), Dr. Kaur performs a gentle cleaning and sends them home with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and even a small toy. During this appointment, we’ll take a look at their developing smile and discuss any concerns that you may have.
As we continue to see your child every six months, we’ll gradually work them up from a soft toothbrush cleaning to a traditional visit with our hygienist. Our goal is to create an environment that's comfortable and fun for your little one!
Oral Hygiene Education with Caregivers
Little fingers aren’t always able to clean their teeth in the way they need. We’ll show you methods to help your child avoid unwanted cavities and gum disease.
Cleanings
Young smiles need regular dental cleanings, too! We recommend a checkup and cleaning at least every six months (more often if your child is in braces or has poor oral hygiene.)
Sealants
Protective sealants can block out cavity-causing bacteria before they harm the deep grooves of back teeth. Most children have sealants placed around the ages of 6 and 12, when their permanent molars erupt. No numbing is necessary!
Space Maintainers
Premature loss of a baby tooth may not seem like a big issue, but it can alter the eruption patterns of adult teeth. Placing a temporary space maintainer in the area will encourage proper oral development and limit extensive orthodontic concerns later on.
Fluoride
Promote healthy tooth development and make teeth resistant to cavities with a professionally applied fluoride treatment. If your child is in braces, we may also suggest a prescription gel or rinse to use at home.
Orthodontic Screenings and Referrals
Did you know that orthodontic experts recommend a screening for all children starting at age 7? During this assessment, we will evaluate how the developing teeth and jaws can be corrected with orthodontic therapy.
