Providing the Best Dental Care for Your Child

A child's first trip to see the dentist should be as enjoyable as possible. Going to the dentist isn't always fun, but Renton Smile Family Dentistry will offer treatments to your children so they aren't frightened or uncomfortable when they come to the clinic.

Proper Oral Hygiene Habits Are Critical

Children should see the dentist by their first birthday. Your child's newly erupted teeth (erupting between 6 and 12 months of age) need proper dental care. As your child's teeth begin to erupt, check them every two weeks looking for any discoloration caused by decay.

Your child should brush as soon as the first tooth comes in. Flossing is also important. Dr. Manchester will discuss with you when it is best to begin a flossing regimen for your child.

Prevent Tooth Decay With Checkups

Tooth decay is caused by sugar left in your mouth that morphs into an acid capable of breaking down your teeth. Children are at risk for tooth decay for one simple reason-- it's not easy to practice normal oral hygiene habits when you are young.

It's important to see the dentist every six months for regular dental cleanups or checkups.
